Fragrant Blast

The main purpose of Fragrant Blast is to connect the world of agriculture with the everyday life of the citizen, via the practice of microgreens cultivation. It is scientifically proven that, since small plants should be taken care of on a daily basis, they help towards lowering stress levels and establishing a healthier emotional state of the user.

Fragrant Blast is designed to be a small multipurpose furniture, a part of which was later designed as a set of independent cultivation pots. Suitable of indoor or outdoor use, the can either be placed on horizontal surfaces, or be hanged on vertical ones.

The plants emerge from the main surface of the containers, forming them as if a small explosion had taken place. They interact playfully with the user because, besides the basic care that the plant requires, one can change their place them like in a puzzle, forming new relations between the parts.

peco

“Peco” aims to reunite man with the fundamental principles of agriculture: water, soil, seeds, and time. The final product is designed as a full package experience consisting of a watering pot that also contains the seeds and a planting pot.

Originally, the spout of the watering pot is a separate module placed οn top of the receptacle, this way creating a three-part object (spout, main body of the watering pot, planting pot); each one is supplementary and joined to the other in a decreasing volume arrangement from bottom to top. In order to proceed with sowing and watering, the user has to assemble the spout with the containing seeds onto the receptacle’s main body to form the watering pot and to proceed with seed sowing inside the planting pot.

“Peco” wishes to develop the user’s involvement in terms of a daily care activity through watering, a procedure that sets the basis for the plant’s growth combined with the factor of time. The focal point of the concept is the user to become emotionally involved through observing the results of the interaction, arousing primeval instincts.

meli 6

The inspiration for our design proposal was the great variety of honey types in the Beekeeping laboratory in School of Agriculture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Considering the diversity and the particular color hue of each kind of honey, while standing in this peculiarity, we were inspired to illustrate six different types of honey with six different color shades.

The choice of number six for the honey types was a conscious choice, as it derived from the number of the edges of the hexagon geometric shape, which is repeated in the entire honeycomb.

Regarding the volume of vials hosting the honey, a pear-shaped guttate bottle was chosen, as a symbolic representation of the actual honey drop. Additionally, the base of the bottle is also pear-shaped, creating a relationship of "dependency" with the base, which is made of wood and has six semi global cavities ready to embrace the honey drops. Finally, the classification of the containers is linear in order to emphasize the "color palette" of the honey included within them.

Meli 6 celebrates bio-diversity of colours and tastes in a case containing 6 types of honey on a wooden laser-engraved base

Two & a half PLANT!

“Two & a half PLANT!” is a project commentary on the life cycle of a culinary herb. The objective is to reconnect people with traditional agricultural processes that have been restrained as a result of urban lifestyle. The final product aspires to link users to the growing process, from sow to consumption, promising a complete experience.

“Two & a half PLANT!” is a set of the following objects:  A handful of seeds embodied inside a clod of soil, a ceramic pot and a porcelain container for the herb’s dehydration. All parts are complementary to each other creating an interaction with the user who experiences the process of cultivation step by step, as each part indicates: After breaking the clod of soil containing the seeds, and filling the ceramic pot with it, the user has the opportunity to grow his own herbs and, if desired, to dehydrate fresh-cut herb sticks safely inside the porcelain container.

The chosen materials (soil clod, clay, porcelain) imply a symbolic analogy to the stages of the plant’s growth (seed, grown plant, dehydrated plant) reflecting a correlation between them and the processing steps.

“Two and a half plant” aims to introduce the users to the circle of life of an edible plant (planting, cultivation, dehydration) via their interaction with its parts: the soil lump, the ceramic pot and the porcelain container.
