b nat

From the beginning of his creation, man was closely connected with nature. He learned how to use it, but also to respect it by finding a balance.

In this project we tried to attribute the meaning of this balance, through the creation of an object called the “be nat”. “be nat” is a table lamp for interior use, with a wooden frame structurally supported by a concrete pot.

A bidirectional connection is created between these two objects. On one hand, we have the dependence of a utilitarian object from an element of nature. In absence of the pot filled with soil and the plant, the lamp is impossible to balance itself in the upright position, and thus this element of nature is necessary for static and functional reasons. On the other hand, the lamp refers as a source of light, which is essential for the life of a plant and therefore, nature.

The original idea came during the workshop through a lecture referring to design objects that are not balanced. The concept was to create an object that cannot stand by itself and in order to provide balance, we placed a pot with a plant on the base.

The name of the object is based on the concept of balance and nature. It implies an incitement: be nat, be natural.

the wooden lamp needs a concrete pot as a counterweight to stand in an upright position as much as the plant needs light for the process of photosynthesis

plant illuminant

“Plant illuminant” is inspired by the shape diversity and singularity of pumpkins. The project wishes to arouse the user’s creativity through modifying raw material into a ceiling illuminant, involving users with the design process.

The concept aims to fascinate users by providing them the opportunity to own a unique illuminant. The final object is designed to be available in two different ways. In the first case the package includes a ready-made illuminant, consisting of a cable, a base for ceiling mounting, an electric outlet and a lamp. In the second case the package additionally includes a leaflet with information on pumpkin cultivation and desiccation, as well as pumpkin seeds, while the body of the illuminant is omitted. This way, users can find all necessary instructions and a series of illustrated patterns as an inspiration guide on the included manual.

Through this process users witness the gradual formation of a 100% customized product. From sowing to the final product “plant illuminant” reminds us of nature’s particularity, motivating one’s unique creativity to impress upon a design object.

you can either buy the pumpkin illuminant ready-made...

...or go for the "plant illuminant" kit
containing a cable, a base for ceiling mounting, an electric outlet, a lamp and pumpkin seeds...
...plus a users manual to guide you through the pumpkin plant process in order to create your own unique illuminant

plan[t] your days

The idea behind the object is the combination of paper recycling and utilization of inedible waste of fruit, with domestic growing herbs. We tried to implement this by creating an interactive calendar. Each page of it is made from recycled paper and contains pulverized peel of the fruit we eat that month, as well as seeds of the herb that can be planted at the end of the month.

Apart from the seasonal fruit and the herb of the month, the calendar provides useful information on the nutritional value and health benefits of each fruit as well as on the history of each herb. At the end of the month we cut the piece of the pyramid corresponding to the herb, we place it on the top of a pot full of soil, cover it with a small layer of soil, water it and wait for it to sprout.

seed box

The “seed box” wishes to unfold the multiple functional potentials of just a single box, providing users the opportunity to develop a domestic garden. “Seed box” constitutes a compact kit that offers a complete experience of a plant’s life.

The top of the “kit” works also as a restrain tank. While removing the top of the wooden box, users are confronted with a set of objects that immediately create a feeling of interaction; a small transplanting trowel designed as a primitive archetype, seed-dispensers, compressed soil and instructions for proper plant care.  The main container divided in five equal space intervals is ready to house the potential plants. After properly preparing the seedbed in each sector, by placing and moisturizing the soil, users can proceed with sowing assisted by the seed-dispensers. These drop the necessary amount of seeds in order to achieve the best yield and can also be used to store the seeds that derive from the grown plants.

The whole kit is carefully designed to support the original intention of the concept: to recall an intimate setting of a forgotten experience.
